DSpace has partial support for full-text searching as of 1.3. (Lucene now indexes whatever it can of file formats it understands, but a limit is set more or less arbitrarily on how much of a given document gets indexed.) Open APIs are in the works, but you're right to leave that blank for the nonce.

Greenstone should be included in this kind of comparison.

I suspect that it has more institutional users than DSpace and Fedora combined. There have to be some pertinent reasons for that.
